Characters: the Amort host family in Rodengo

Here’s to good times

It all began in 1958, when Grandpa Josef Amort started a small farm in Rodengo – surrounded by majestic walnut trees and with a view many envied. Ten years later, the stable and barn are transformed into a youth hostel for adventurous travellers. In 1993, the next chapter began: the youth hostel became a hotel, which to this day welcomes guests from all over the world. And yes, the name ”Nussbaumerhofisn’t a coincidence – our walnut trees aren’t just decorative, they’re part of the story.

The host family of the Hotel Nussbaumerhof

This is us: characters

We’ll admit it – we’re not perfect, but we’re genuine!
With heart, humour and a light-hearted touch, we love to make our guests’ lives a little brighter. We’re hosts with passion, always focused on what really matters, and we make sure you feel completely at home. Hopefully, our warmth will stay with you just as much as the special moments you’ll experience with us …

The hosts' family dog, named Balu

Balu

– Farm dog & secret star of the Nussbaumerhof
… greets you on arrival with a wagging tail and captures your heart with his sky-blue eyes in a matter of seconds. In other words: he is and always be the star of the show. 😉 Don’t worry, Balu is the friendliest dog far and wide and wouldn’t hurt a fly*.

*Unless that fly has fur and looks suspiciously like a cat. Especially if it sneaks onto “his” farm at night without permission. He takes his job as head of security very seriously.

Hostess Sieglinde

Sieglinde

– Heart of the house & queen of décor
… is the reason everything runs so smoothly here. She keeps the whole crew together, creates flower arrangements to make any gardener jealous, and has an unerring eye for the perfect decoration. In her breaks, you’ll find Sieglinde either playing with her grandchildren, doing dessert quality checks* or on a ”secret mission” to find the ideal decorative piece.

*Selfless as she is, she’s taken it upon herself to personally test the desserts to make sure they are of the highest quality. Purely out of duty, of course, how kind. 😉

Host Kristian

Kristian

– Senior host & all-rounder
… as a passionate host he always strikes the right tone from the moment you arrive – whether with guests or his feathered friends as an avid bird breeder. With his direct, down-to-earth and warm manner, he’s always a welcome conversation partner*. In the evenings, he likes to mingle with guests and is always up for a good chat.

*Ask him about hiking tips and you’ll get (almost) the entire mountain world served on a silver platter – including anecdotes and insider advice!

Hostess Lena during service

Lena

– Ray of sunshine & pastry chef
… with her open, warm and always cheerful nature Lena keeps the mood high throughout the house. And if she’s not at the Nussbaumerhof, she’s probably changing nappies changing nappies – though that doesn’t stop her from dreaming up her next (sweet) idea.

*Some come from her cheerful nature, others for the desserts – in the end everyone stays because of both!

Host Markus with his cow

Markus

– Foodie & man of action
… Is not just our junior boss, but also passionate chef with a flair for creative food presentation. At the same time, he runs the family farm and breeds “Sprinzen” cattle, always ready to lend a hand when needed. His trademark? That warm, infectious smile. And his great love* of tractor driving – which is plain to see.

*To be looked at the way Markus looks at a tractor … *sigh*

Values & Tradition

For us, tradition isn’t just preserved, it’s lived. Whether at the cattle drive, during festive parades or in the kitchen – we keep old customs alive with heart and soul. Senior host Kristian is not only a passionate collector of wreaths and cowbells, but also loves preparing ”Mingilan” following his mother’s original recipe a speciality you really should try.

Culinary delights & traditional cuisine

South Tyrol to savour – that’s our philosophy. Where down-to-earth, traditional dishes are served, prepared with regional ingredients and a generous pinch of passion.

A farm with a heart

The Nussbaumerhof is no ordinary hotel – it is a true family-run business, grown out of a love for farming, hospitality and good food. Our roots run deep: our connection to nature, love for our animals and care for our traditions make our home a special place.

Craft & nature

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We’ve made almost everything around our hotel – from the roofs to the benches to the decorations ourselves. And for that, we use only wood from our own forests. A particular highlight is our dining room – with large panoramic windows, it is the heart of the house and brings together the best of both worlds: modern elegance meets rustic charm, creating an atmosphere, where you’ll instantly feel at home.
