A fairytale landscape straight from a storybook: glistening slopes sparkling in the sun, perfectly groomed pistes for smooth descents, and snow-covered paths leading straight into a winter wonderland. Whether you’re skiing, snowboarding or enjoying a peaceful snowshoe hike in Val Pusteria – every moment of your winter holiday in the Gitschberg Jochtal ski area is magical.
The Gitschberg Jochtal ski area
… is a dream for pleasure skiers from near and far. Set above Rio di Pusteria, the two interlinked ski areas of Gitschberg and Jochtal await. They are part of the world’s largest ski carousel, Dolomiti Superski and offer 55 km of pistes and 15 lifts, plenty of skiing fun for young and old.
The Plose ski area
… near Bressanone is recommended not just for families but also for those who love a thrill. Among its 40 kilometres of pistes are two (black) descents: the Trametsch (9 km long, 1,000 m of elevation drop) and the Crazy Horse (1 km long, steep and fast), which definitely lives up to its name.
Glide across the ice
… and maybe even try a pirouette or two, either at the ice rink in Rodengo (no skate rental) or at the 2,000 m² natural ice rink (with skate hire available) in Valles.
Rustic hut hikes
… whether with winter boots or snowshoes – is there anything better than a tour through deep snow, followed by a hearty break in a cosy alpine hut? All around Rodengo, Valles and Maranza, there are plenty of worthwhile excursion destinations: the Bacherhütte in Maranza (1,744 m), the Rastnerhütte (1,931 m) and the Roner Alm (1,823 m) on the Alpe di Rodengo, the Malga Nock (1,766 m) in the Gitschberg Jochtal area, the idyllic Malga Fane (1,739 m) in the Val di Valles, and many more. On runners through a winter wonderland …
… wrapped in warm blankets, the soft snorting of the horses in the crisp winter air, and beneath you, the gentle glide of the runners across the glittering snow a horse-drawn sleigh ride in Maranza is pure magic. The scenery passes silently as you breathe in the fresh mountain air and savour the moment.
Like cross-country heaven
… is how you’ll feel as you glide over the snow-covered Alpe di Rodengo-Luson.
Whether skating or classic style – the trail spans around 25 km, leading you from hut to hut: from the Rifugio Oberhauser to the Roner Alm, past the mountain chapel, on to the Rifugio Rastner or Rifugio Starkenfeld and many more.
Untouched nature experience
… Step by step through winter landscapes, far from the hustle and bustle of the pistes. The silence of the mountains, the crunch of snow beneath your touring skis and the anticipation of the descent make every ski tour a special experience. Whether relaxing or challenging – nature shows itself at its finest. A true highlight for night owls: every Tuesday evening the Malga Nock in Valles is open until 11:15 pm – the perfect stop for night ski tourers.
